Did you know that while most animals run from storms, the bison charges straight into them? This powerful creature knows that facing the storm head-on is the quickest way through it. What if we approached life’s challenges the same way? In a world filled with trials and uncertainties, the bison teaches us a profound lesson about courage, faith, and perseverance. Join me as we explore how facing our storms with faith can lead us to strength, growth, and victory.
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
Have you ever heard about the bison and the storm? While other animals run away from the storm, the bison does something remarkable—it walks straight into it. Why? Because the bison knows that by facing the storm head-on, it will get through the storm more quickly. This is a powerful image for us as believers. Life will bring storms—trials, challenges, and difficulties—but how we face them makes all the difference. Today, let’s learn from the bison and the Word of God about how to walk straight into the storms of life with faith, courage, and perseverance.
1. Storms Are Inevitable
Just as storms are a natural part of the wilderness, trials are a natural part of life. Jesus Himself told us in John 16:33, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." We cannot avoid storms, but we can choose how we respond to them. Running away might seem easier, but it only prolongs the struggle. Like the bison, we are called to face our storms head-on, trusting that God is with us in the midst of them.
2. Facing the Storm Builds Strength
The bison doesn’t face the storm because it’s easy; it faces the storm because it knows that doing so will make it stronger. Similarly, James 1:2-4 reminds us that trials produce perseverance. When we face our challenges with faith, we grow stronger in our character and our trust in God. Romans 5:3-4 says, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." The storms of life are not meant to break us; they are meant to build us.
3. God Is with Us in the Storm
When we face the storm, we are not alone. Just as the bison relies on its strength and instincts, we rely on the strength and presence of God. Isaiah 43:2 says, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." God promises to be with us in every storm, guiding us and giving us the strength to endure.
4. The Storm Will Pass
The bison knows that the storm won’t last forever. By walking straight into it, it shortens the time it spends in the storm. In the same way, our trials are temporary. 2 Corinthians 4:17 reminds us, "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." When we face our storms with faith, we can trust that God will bring us through to the other side, where there is peace, growth, and victory.
Conclusion: Walk into the Storm with Faith
Today, if you’re facing a storm in your life, I encourage you to be like the bison. Don’t run from it; don’t hide from it. Face it head-on, knowing that God is with you, that this storm is shaping you, and that it will not last forever. Remember the words of Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." Walk into the storm with faith, and you will come out stronger on the other side.
Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being with us in every storm. Give us the courage to face our trials head-on, trusting in Your strength and Your promises. Help us to grow through every challenge and to come out stronger, more faithful, and more reliant on You. We know that no storm is too great for You, and we trust You to lead us through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Go forth this week, and face your storms with the faith of a bison and the strength of the Lord!
